Steam room origin

Steam room origins can be a bit mysterious to some. After reading some of the back story of some of these machines, you may be wondering where they come from. The answer is from London’s Fenton and Smith streets, two of the most popular areas in the city.

The Fenton and Smith streets steam room is credited to be London’s first of its type. The room was created on October 5, 1830, by John Fenton, a furrier from London’s Royal Court Street Ward. The room was designed to allow up to 24 people to combine together for a ‘3-day steam bath’. Unknown to the people in the room, these people were all’ordinary people’ who were using what were then new and innovative methods to improve their lives. The Fenton and Smith streets steam room was a major discovery and is now a part of the city’s heritage.
